Be Aware of calls from 03-2178 8888

Dear friends,

Please do not believe the call from 03-2178 8888 Ambank Customer Service Hotline.

This happened in my family.

Incident 1

My father received a call from Ambank last Wednesday. The customer service officer was told that my father having an outstanding amount of RM3,800 in credit card account..

My father was felt weird and called me to check. I told my father to ignore the call since he does not have any account in Ambank. But he insists me to check & gave me the number that appeared in his mobile, which is 03-2178 8888.

Finally I have called to Ambank Customer Service Center & told them regarding the incident. The officer told that they have received a lot of customer complain regarding the same incident recently. They have been make a police report regarding the incident. She told me NOT to believe those calls from 03-2178 8888 because the hotline is for public to call in and the same number will not appear if the call is really from Ambank’s staff.

Incident 2

My youngest brother received a call from 03-2178 8888 from Ambank yesterday & the guy want to check with my brother whether he is using the credit card to buy jewelry from Poh Kong in KLCC & the amt is about RM3,000. My brother was wondering because he does not have any credit card from any bank. Then the guy told him that maybe there is someone using my brother identity to applied their credit card. The guy said my brother has to pay a outstanding amount of RM5,000 which has been swiped previously even though he does not have the card. My brother was very angry, but the guy taught him to report to Bank Negara and he directly transferred the line to “Bank Negara Officer”.

The “Bank Negara Officer” told that my brother has to change all the PIN number of his saving accounts since his identity has been used by somebody. “The Officer” asked my brother to go to ATM machine immediately and he will call my brother again to teach him how to change the PIN number. He told my brother not to check his account within 3 days after change the PIN number.

My brother was wondering & he told the “Officer” that he only can do it by next day. At last, the “Officer” asked my brother go to the ATM machine at 10am the next day & he will call my brother.

After hang up the call, my brother called me & told about the incident. I have asked my brother to ignore it & told him regarding the incident that happened to my father last week.

My brother told that those “Officers” were very professional & make him felt that incident is really happen.

Teoh Beng Hock’s body

Sunday, 19 July 2009 10:37

By SV Singam
I am no forensic pathologist. And I have no access to the crime scene. I am merely one of those much maligned armchair commentators and the only evidence I have is the image of poor brother Teoh Beng Hock’s body, lying there on the roof of what I guess to be the podium block.
But the evidence appears to be glaring!
1. THERE IS NO BLOOD! Even if Bro Teoh had hit some other part of the building on the way down and had been killed by that impact, his body would have reached the final resting point within seconds of the impact. Whether or not there were external injuries, there would certainly be internal injury and bleeding. Blood would have flowed out of his nose and mouth and, possibly, his ears. And the blood would only flow out from the body many seconds after the injuries occur, after the body had come to rest. There should be a pool of blood around his head. There is none! This is the most damning evidence.
2. The arms and legs appear to be undamaged. Had Bro Teoh been conscious when he was falling, he would most likely have been facing the ground and would have tried to stop the impact. His arms are likely to have broken at the elbows. His legs are likely to have been splayed out at awkward angles. Even if he had fallen backwards, his arms would have been splayed out and bounced into some unnatural angles. The body position shown in the photographs is too natural.
3. The tear in his trousers suggests to me that his body landed with the buttocks hanging downwards and the tear occurred at the point of impact. He dropped that way because his inert body was being held by arms and legs before being dropped.
Based on the above three points, I have to say that Bro Teoh was very likely already dead and his body was thrown down from a high floor to make it appear that the death was due to the fall.
Mischievous persons have tried to implicate triad involvement in this unfortunate death. But by hiding the truth and faking a forensic report, the authorities are only condemning themselves and their associates in crime.
The MACC, ………… ????????? have to bear full responsibility for this grisly act of manslaughter.

UMNO Cuti (Lawatan Sambil Belajar)
AFTER a gruelling seven days, the public inquiry into possible misuse of funds by Wives of Selangor Elected Representatives
Charity Organisation (BALKIS) ended yesterday, leaving those who attended reeling from the revelations.khir2

For more than a week, details of money spent on exotic trips, overseas souvenir- shopping expeditions and gifts for guests attending glitzy functions, kept members of the Selangor State Assembly’s Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) riveted as the figures continued to rise.

The inquiry is the first to be conducted by a State Legislative Assembly in the country. Other States are widely expected to follow suit following the conclusion of the Balkis inquiry.

Yesterday, PNSB chief executive officer Datin Khairiyah Abu Hassan dropped a bombshell when she further revealed how much the State-owned conglomerate had forked out for former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Khir Toyo and his family’s expenses during the overseas technical visits.

She also drew hoots of laughter when she explained the reasons for the trips.

1. Jakarta and Jogjakarta, Indonesia -  20-24 April 2003

Total cost: RM201,452

Dr Khir, his wife, daughter and maid also went on the trip. The purpose was for delegates to study Indonesia ’s batik production, which was supposed to lead to the opening of a batik factory in Selangor.

Cost of airfare for Dr Khir, his wife, daughter and maid: RM37,695

Miscellaneous costs incurred by the delegates RM34,404 p155547-jogjakarta-taman_sari

2. Morocco and Paris : 17-24 Dec 2004

(inclusive of four-day transit in Dubai )
Total cost: RM900,000

The trip, attended by Dr Khir, his wife, children and maid as well as PNSB delegates, was to study Islamic architecture, which could be adopted in Selangor.

The group, which had a reconnaissance trip beforehand, also visited Paris Disneyland to generate ideas for a theme park in Bagan Lalang, Sepang.

They bought tickets to enter the theme park and did not meet any Disneyland representatives.

disney1Cost of the recce team trip: RM366,000

Cost of official trip: RM416,000

Airfare: RM366,000

Ground arrangements RM420,000

City travel: RM70,000

Other expenses RM43,000

3.  Honolulu (Hawaii) & Orlando (Florida) - 23 Dec 2007 to 1 Jan 2008

Total cost: RM646,841

Additional cash taken: RM101,000

A technical study on the Bagan Lalang theme park was also the pivotal reason for the trip. The group, comprising Dr Khir, his family and PNSB delegates, bought tickets to DisneyWorld and again did not meet any Disneyland representatives.

A tour guide instead took them around. Cost of Dr Khir’s luxury suite: RM110,000

Cost of six single superior rooms for the delegates: RM171,000

Cost of one twin-sharing room RM24,800

Khairiyah claimed that on the trips, Dr Khir and his wife flew only first class.

The itinerary of the US trip also included visits to Miami Beach , island tours, dinner cruises and a Honolulu city tour.

Dr Khir and his wife, supposed to have been key witnesses, failed to turn up for any of the inquiry proceedings..

Dr Khir would be referred to the Committee of Privileges while Zaharah could be prosecuted under Section 5 of the Contempt of the House Act 2008. The inquiry’s findings will be presented at the next sitting of the Selangor State Assembly in July.

The Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission is expected to investigate possible criminal breach of trust (CBT) once Selcat concludes its findings and police conclude their investigations.

11 Sept 2009 - Khir Toyo was called  for questioning by MACC  but he was let go after some greetings and minor questions.

Why didn’t they keep him overnight like Teoh Beng Hock and then see if he jumps to his death from Plaza Masalam?

Corruption is corruption!

Corruption is corruption!

By P. Ramakrishnan (President, Aliran)

Corruption is corruption, Mr Prime Minister. There are no two ways about it. You cannot minimise the crime by camouflaging the offence under some other label. Neither can you make it disappear by simply declaring “that the offence committed by Isa was not an offence under the law”.

It is not true that Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad only breached party ethics. That would be a lie. He was found guilty of indulging in money politics to secure his victory in the Umno party elections for the post of Vice-President in 1994. He won the post with the highest number of votes. In fact, he wasn’t satisfied with the number of votes he garnered. He then quipped that he expected to win his position with an even higher majority!

Following his victory, complaints were lodged with the Umno Disciplinary Board accusing Isa of having resorted to money to secure his victory. The Disciplinary Board instituted an investigation to probe into the allegations of money politics. It called up witnesses to collect evidence and establish proof of the allegation. Isa was given ample opportunity to defend himself. After what must be deemed as a very thorough and fair investigation, the Disciplinary Board found him guilty. He was stripped of his position and suspended for six years, a two-term period. On appeal, his sentence was drastically reduced to three years, a 50 per cent reduction.

Isa was such a powerful force within Umno with wide ranging influence. It would have been very difficult to find such a personality guilty but the evidence surely must have been overwhelming that the Board had no other alternative except to convict him. Eminent people sat on the Disciplinary Board among whom were Tan Sri Zaki Azmi, the present Chief Justice, and Tengku Ahmad Rithaudeen, a one time long-serving cabinet minister and lawyer. So the verdict has total credibility and substance to quash any question of impropriety in their decision.

For the PM to claim that the offence was merely a technical one and that it was not an offence under the law is preposterous. Money politics is a criminal offence, it is an act of corruption, and if the PM has any other notion, then this matter should be referred to the MACC to seek their professional opinion! It is rather disappointing that the MACC did not move in to investigate Isa for corruption. If an Opposition person was embroiled in similar circumstances, there would be no doubt as to how the MACC would have acted.

Umno did Isa a favour by not referring Isa’s money politics to the MACC. If that was done then, today Umno will not have this shameful episode of offering a corrupt politician as its candidate at the Bagan Pinang by-election.

EPF Nominations Tue, 28 Jul 2009

This is not true. Please read the answer provided by the GM of Public Relations from EPF.

Actually this has already been brought to our attention by the Star Editor. We have in fact sent our response to him which has been attached below for your reference.

If a member has more than one nominee and one of the nominees dies during the member’s lifetime, only the portion that was bequeathed to the deceased nominee will be invalid.

Should the member later dies without updating his nomination, the other nominees will receive their portion accordingly.

Only the portion that was bequeathed to the deceased nominee will be subject to procedures under ‘EPF savings without nomination’ in which the first priority for the right to claim the member’s savings goes to the appointed administrator of the deceased member’s estate.

Therefore it is not true that if you, as a member, have named more than one nominee, the entire nomination will be void if one of the nominee dies before you.

It follows however that if you have named only one nominee and he or she dies before you, the nomination will be void unless a new beneficiary is nominated.

Please note that you don’t have to produce the death certificate of a deceased nominee to change your nomination.

You can change/update your nomination anytime by simply completing a new KWSP 4 (AHL) Form. This will automatically revoke any earlier nomination made.

The information concerning approaching EPF counter within 3 days to avoid EPF savings being ’surrendered to Amanah Raya’ if no nomination is made or if nominee dies at the same time as the member is not true.

Depending on the amount of savings in the member’s account, if there is no nomination the procedure will be as follows:-

If member’s EPF savings are less than RM25,000:* *Initial sum of RM2,500 will be paid to the next of kin.* *The balance will be paid after a two-month period from the date of the member’s death.

If member’s EPF savings are more than RM25,000:* *Initially a sum of RM2,500 will be paid to the next of kin.* *The second payment (not more than RM17,500) will be paid to the next of kin after two months from the date of the member’s death.

* *The balance of the savings will be paid upon submitting the Letter of Administration/Grant of Probate/Distribution Order/Faraid Certificate from the party that administers estates such as Amanah Raya Berhad or the Court or the Land Office, respectively.

The process to obtain these documents is time-consuming and certain fees will also need to be paid. On the other hand, with nomination, no fees need to be paid.

This is precisely why nominating is very important.

You should also ensure that you update your beneficiary whenever there is any major life changes such as marriage, additional new members or the death of a nominated beneficiary.

The explanation above should help you respond to members’ queries on this issue.

Please also help us forward this explanation to those who forwarded the email.

Thank you.

Proton may face management buyout

proton-logoKUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — A management buyout of national carmaker Proton Holdings could be possible, the firm’s chairman was quoted by The Star newspaper as saying.

Mohd Nadzmi Salleh said he was willing to help the management spin off the carmaker that analysts say has struggled to retain it’s domestic market share and come up with new vehicle models.

“If Proton is indeed for sale and the price is right, I see no reason why a management buyout should not be considered,” he was quoted as saying in The Star’s business edition.

“As Proton is a fairly well-managed company and financially strong, I believe turning Proton around would not be too difficult a task.”

Proton officials were not immediately available for comment.

Proton shares have more than doubled so far this year, fuelled by market speculation billionaire Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhary may be interested in acquiring a controlling stake in the company.

Local media reports also have also said Proton’s former executive director Kisai Rahmat is interested in a controlling stake and may team up with another car distributor Naza Group for a takeover.

Prospects of a tie-up with a foreign strategic partner have also perked up investor interest in Proton. German car maker Volkswagen said last month it was exploring the possibility of building cars in Malaysia with Proton.

Volkswagen was previously in talks with the Malaysian government, the controlling shareholder of Proton, to take up a stake in the carmaker, but talks collapsed in 2007 for undisclosed reasons.

Citing sources, the Edge Financial Daily reported today that Proton had started discussions with India’s Hero Group to build small passenger cars for the growing Indian market.

Talks are expected to be concluded by year-end and involve Proton supplying a platform for the small car and providing manufacturing expertise to Hero. — Reuters
